A parakeet on a flowering peach branch. Ink and light colors on silk, mounted as a hanging scroll. Signature: "painted by Ren Yi" and seal: "Yi".
From an old Austrian private collection, collected in the 1970s. Guangdong Antique Shop's label
Ren Yi (1840-1896), also known as Ren Bonian, was born in Zhejiang und lived in Shanghai after 1855. He was a member of Shanghai School which fused modern and traditional styles and ranked with Ren Xiong, Ren Xun and Ren Yu as the "Four Rens"
